T’ai Chi Chuan

T’ai Chi is an ancient Chinese system of movement which improves overall health. Practiced at a slow and even speed, the T’ai Chi Form promotes relaxation, straight posture and balance. I have been studying T’ai Chi since 1972 and teaching since 1984. I teach with the School of Tai Chi Chuan which is based in New York City, was founded by Patrick Watson who was a “Worthy” of Professor Cheng Man-ch’ing, and given permission to teach teachers. I really love teaching the Eight Ways which are principles of movement distilled from the T’ai Chi form that are essential for balance and relaxation. The Eight Ways are ideal for people who are recovering from injury or illness. They allow each person to practice at his or her own level and teach us how to apply these principles of movement to everyday activities. Sometimes during a session, it is appropriate to work with one of these ways to enhance strength, balance or relaxation.
